[Aerial Surveying and AEC]

[Aerial Surveying and AEC]

Before the advent of 3D models, military and civilian specialists had to use conventional maps that showed the world around them in a flat coordinate system, and then in 2D. The three-dimensional models in which this third spatial curtain - height appeared - is a relatively new product, but it is in great demand among the military and civilians.

Three-dimensional maps or 3D models are used in:
Town planning;
Geology and mining;
Engineering studies;
Cadastral cases.
Unlike 2D models, three-dimensional models allow for a more accurate and volumetric display of those objects that have height:
Specifications of changing terrain;
Buildings;
Engineering structures and communications;
Green areas.

When you see the result in the form of a 3D model, it is a three-dimensional map of heights and bumps (relief and surface objects) overlaid with a photo texture. Such a product is the result of processing many photos and using special algorithms and rules. 3D models help visualize a new territory or object with excellent accuracy.

The role of drones in the creation of 3D models

To create 3D models you need the following information:
Detailed plan of the settlement;
Topographic maps;
Results of aerial photography and laser scanning;
Ultra high resolution satellite imagery results.
Traditional methods of creating 3D models to this day use not only the data from "classic" aerial photography (using drones), but also with photos taken by ground expeditions.
Today, drones are widely used for 3D modeling. At the same time, their equipment and software enable the performance of a wide range of tasks within 3D modeling:
Topographic surveying of territories;
Shooting careers;
Facade shooting;
Filming for organizations and communication services;
Shooting to create 3D indoor models;
Rapid creation of digital models of objects.

Creating orthomosaics
Civilian orthophoto maps, as well as many other modern technologies, are the result of a creative rethinking of military developments. In fact, the technology to create accurate terrain plans through aerial and space surveys has gained wide acceptance, primarily among the military, and has been used to create accurate topographical maps of the area.

In the civilian sphere, the development of the military began to be used for such areas of activity as:
Geology;
Topography;
Construction;
Reclamation;
Agriculture;
Forestry;
Engineering survey;
Creation of digital and cadastral maps.

For example, high-quality orthophoto maps help to quickly assess the condition of soils and crops, the condition of green areas, the quality of cultivated land and the quality of its processing, the assessment of the situation in the area of planned development, and others.

[Archeology and Mining]

Drones are helping more and more researchers to make 3D models of objects around the world instead of the usual maps, while at the same time saving a lot of time. Archaeologists say the technology could help mark boundaries to protect sites, monitor and control threats, and create a digital repository of ruins.
